Course contents:

  • Introduction, initial value problems.
  • O.D.E’s of first and second order, separable, homogeneous, Bernoulli, Ricati, Euler, exact, the method of integrating factor.
  • Newton’s O.D.E. and applications on basic problems of elementary mechanics.
  • Linear independence & dependence, Wronskian, the y = gY transformation.
  • Linear O.D.E’s with constant coefficients.
  • The Laplace transform method.
  • Applications in mechanics and electricity.
  • Systems of O.D.E’s with constant coefficients.
  • Linear O.D.E.’s with varying coefficients.
  • The method of power series.

Assessment and grading method:

  • Final closed-book written exam, 100% of the grade or (optional)
  • Midterm exam, 50% and final closed-book written exam, 50% of the grade
