General Information

Aims and Objectives of the Postgraduate Studies Programme (PSP)

The ultimate goal of the Postgraduate Studies Program (PSP) is to develop cutting-edge technology and expertise in Environmental Engineering.

In particular, the PSP awards the degrees of (a) Master of Science (M.Sc.) (called Postgraduate Specialization Diploma, in Greek) in “Environmental Engineering” and (b) Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (Doctoral Diploma in Greek) in the discipline of Environmental Engineering. The Master of Science degree is the culmination of the second course of studies provided by the Environmental Engineering School, while the Doctoral Diploma is the culmination of the third course of studies.

The PSP offers science and engineering graduates the opportunity to specialize in one of the following areas:

  • Water Resources and Climate Change
  • Water and Waste Treatment
  • Environmental Management, Sustainable Energy and Climate Change

The Postgraduate Studies Program aims to:

  1. explore in-depth interdisciplinary knowledge and practice in environmental engineering as well as to further specialization in specific areas,
  2. promote research conducted in the field of Environmental Engineering,
  3. educate students at postgraduate level and produce scientists-researchers equipped with the qualifications and skills necessary to offer specialized work, conduct original scientific research and to contribute in solving major environmental problems as well as in the protection of public health.

Upon completion of the postgraduate studies, students are expected to have acquired the knowledge, qualifications and skills to analyze and solve complex problems in Environmental Engineering by applying an integrated approach.  More specifically, depending on the area of specialization, PSP graduates are expected to have acquired:

  1. the competence to carry out studies and conduct research in topics related to the integrated water resources management and the mitigation of the effects of climate change,
  2. the scientific background to analyze and design processes for water and waste treatment, and the ability to design and dimension the respective management and treatment systems and units, and,
  3. the ability to address problems related to climate change, to design energy systems minimizing the effect of climate change and to propose innovative processes and applied environmental management and planning systems.
